2 Twenty6242 and five2568 years8141 old1121 was1961 he when he began to reign;4427 and he reigned4427 twenty6242 and nine8672 years8141 in Jerusalem.3389 His mother's517 name8034 also was Abi,21 the daughter1323 of Zachariah.2148

3 And he did6213 that which was right3477 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 according to all3605 that834 David1732 his father1 did.6213

4 He1931 removed5493 853 the high places,1116 and broke7665 853 the images,4676 and cut down3772 853 the groves,842 and broke in pieces3807 the brazen5178 serpent5175 that834 Moses4872 had made:6213 for3588 unto5704 those1992 days3117 the children1121 of Israel3478 did1961 burn incense6999 to it: and he called7121 it Nehushtan.5180

5 He trusted982 in the LORD3068 God430 of Israel;3478 so that after310 him was1961 none3808 like him3644 among all3605 the kings4428 of Judah,3063 nor any that834 were1961 before6440 him.

6 For he cleaved1692 to the LORD,3068 and departed5493 not3808 from following4480 310 him, but kept8104 his commandments,4687 which834 the LORD3068 commanded6680 853 Moses.4872

7 And the LORD3068 was1961 with5973 him; and he prospered7919 whithersoever3605 834 he went forth:3318 and he rebelled4775 against the king4428 of Assyria,804 and served5647 him not.3808

8 He1931 smote5221 853 the Philistines,6430 even unto5704 Gaza,5804 and the borders1366 thereof, from the tower4480 4026 of the watchmen5341 to5704 the fenced4013 city.5892

9 And it came to pass1961 in the fourth7243 year8141 of king4428 Hezekiah,2396 which1931 was the seventh7637 year8141 of Hoshea1954 son1121 of Elah425 king4428 of Israel,3478 that Shalmaneser8022 king4428 of Assyria804 came up5927 against5921 Samaria,8111 and besieged6696 5921 it.

10 And at the end4480 7097 of three7969 years8141 they took3920 it: even in the sixth8337 year8141 of Hezekiah,2396 that1931 is the ninth8672 year8141 of Hoshea1954 king4428 of Israel,3478 Samaria8111 was taken.3920

11 And the king4428 of Assyria804 did carry away1540 853 Israel3478 unto Assyria,804 and put5148 them in Halah2477 and in Habor2249 by the river5104 of Gozan,1470 and in the cities5892 of the Medes: 4074

12 Because5921 834 they obeyed8085 not3808 the voice6963 of the LORD3068 their God,430 but transgressed5674 853 his covenant,1285 and853 all3605 that834 Moses4872 the servant5650 of the LORD3068 commanded,6680 and would not3808 hear8085 them, nor3808 do6213 them.

13 Now in the fourteenth702 6240 year8141 of king4428 Hezekiah2396 did Sennacherib5576 king4428 of Assyria804 come up5927 against5921 all3605 the fenced1219 cities5892 of Judah,3063 and took8610 them.

14 And Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063 sent7971 to413 the king4428 of Assyria804 to Lachish,3923 saying,559 I have offended;2398 return7725 from4480 5921 me: 853 that which834 thou puttest5414 on5921 me will I bear.5375 And the king4428 of Assyria804 appointed7760 unto5921 Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063 three7969 hundred3967 talents3603 of silver3701 and thirty7970 talents3603 of gold.2091

15 And Hezekiah2396 gave5414 him853 all3605 the silver3701 that was found4672 in the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and in the treasures214 of the king's4428 house.1004

16 At that1931 time6256 did Hezekiah2396 cut off7112 the gold from853 the doors1817 of the temple1964 of the LORD,3068 and from the pillars547 which834 Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063 had overlaid,6823 and gave5414 it to the king4428 of Assyria.804

17 And the king4428 of Assyria804 sent7971 853 Tartan8661 and Rabsaris7249 and Rab-shakeh7262 from4480 Lachish3923 to413 king4428 Hezekiah2396 with a great3515 host2426 against Jerusalem.3389 And they went up5927 and came935 to Jerusalem.3389 And when they were come up,5927 they came935 and stood5975 by the conduit8585 of the upper5945 pool,1295 which834 is in the highway4546 of the fuller's3526 field.7704

18 And when they had called7121 to413 the king,4428 there came out3318 to413 them Eliakim471 the son1121 of Hilkiah,2518 which834 was over5921 the household,1004 and Shebna7644 the scribe,5608 and Joah3098 the son1121 of Asaph623 the recorder.2142

19 And Rab-shakeh7262 said559 unto413 them, Speak559 ye now4994 to413 Hezekiah,2396 Thus3541 saith559 the great1419 king,4428 the king4428 of Assyria,804 What4100 confidence986 is this2088 wherein834 thou trustest?982

20 Thou sayest,559 (but389 they are but vain8193 words,)1697 I have counsel6098 and strength1369 for the war.4421 Now6258 on5921 whom4310 dost thou trust,982 that3588 thou rebellest4775 against me?

21 Now,6258 behold,2009 thou trustest982 upon5921 the staff4938 of this2088 bruised7533 reed,7070 even upon5921 Egypt,4714 on5921 which834 if a man376 lean,5564 it will go935 into his hand,3709 and pierce5344 it: so3651 is Pharaoh6547 king4428 of Egypt4714 unto all3605 that trust982 on5921 him.

22 But if3588 ye say559 unto413 me, We trust982 in413 the LORD3068 our God:430 is not3808 that he,1931 whose834 853 high places1116 and whose altars4196 Hezekiah2396 hath taken away,5493 and hath said559 to Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 Ye shall worship7812 before6440 this2088 altar4196 in Jerusalem?3389

23 Now6258 therefore, I pray thee,4994 give pledges6149 to854 my lord113 the king4428 of Assyria,804 and I will deliver5414 thee two thousand505 horses,5483 if518 thou be able3201 on thy part to set5414 riders7392 upon5921 them.

24 How349 then wilt thou turn away7725 853 the face6440 of one259 captain6346 of the least6996 of my master's113 servants,5650 and put thy trust982 on5921 Egypt4714 for chariots7393 and for horsemen?6571

25 Am I now6258 come up5927 without4480 1107 the LORD3068 against5921 this2088 place4725 to destroy7843 it? The LORD3068 said559 to413 me, Go up5927 against5921 this2063 land,776 and destroy7843 it.

26 Then said559 Eliakim471 the son1121 of Hilkiah,2518 and Shebna,7644 and Joah,3098 unto413 Rab-shakeh,7262 Speak,1696 I pray thee,4994 to413 thy servants5650 in the Syrian language;762 for3588 we587 understand8085 it: and talk1696 not408 with5973 us in the Jews' language3066 in the ears241 of the people5971 that834 are on5921 the wall.2346

27 But Rab-shakeh7262 said559 unto413 them, Hath my master113 sent7971 me to5921 thy master,113 and to413 thee, to speak1696 853 these428 words?1697 hath he not3808 sent me to5921 the men376 which sit3427 on5921 the wall,2346 that they may eat398 853 their own dung,6675 and drink8354 853 their own piss4325 7272 with5973 you?

28 Then Rab-shakeh7262 stood5975 and cried7121 with a loud1419 voice6963 in the Jews' language,3066 and spoke,1696 saying,559 Hear8085 the word1697 of the great1419 king,4428 the king4428 of Assyria: 804

29 Thus3541 saith559 the king,4428 Let not408 Hezekiah2396 deceive5377 you: for3588 he shall not3808 be able3201 to deliver5337 you out of his hand:4480 3027

30 Neither408 let Hezekiah2396 make you trust982 853 in413 the LORD,3068 saying,559 The LORD3068 will surely deliver5337 5337 us, and853 this2063 city5892 shall not3808 be delivered5414 into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Assyria.804

31 Hearken8085 not408 to413 Hezekiah:2396 for3588 thus3541 saith559 the king4428 of Assyria,804 Make6213 an agreement with854 me by a present,1293 and come out3318 to413 me, and then eat398 ye every man376 of his own vine,1612 and every one376 of his fig tree,8384 and drink8354 ye every one376 the waters4325 of his cistern: 953

33 Hath any376 of the gods430 of the nations1471 delivered at all5337 5337 853 his land776 out of the hand4480 3027 of the king4428 of Assyria?804

34 Where346 are the gods430 of Hamath,2574 and of Arpad?774 where346 are the gods430 of Sepharvaim,5617 Hena,2012 and Ivah?5755 have they delivered5337 853 Samaria8111 out of mine hand?4480 3027

35 Who4310 are they among all3605 the gods430 of the countries,776 that834 have delivered5337 853 their country776 out of mine hand,4480 3027 that3588 the LORD3068 should deliver5337 853 Jerusalem3389 out of mine hand?4480 3027

36 But the people5971 held their peace,2790 and answered6030 him not3808 a word:1697 for3588 the king's4428 commandment4687 was, saying,559 Answer6030 him not.3808

37 Then came935 Eliakim471 the son1121 of Hilkiah,2518 which834 was over5921 the household,1004 and Shebna7644 the scribe,5608 and Joah3098 the son1121 of Asaph623 the recorder,2142 to413 Hezekiah2396 with their clothes899 rent,7167 and told5046 him the words1697 of Rab-shakeh.7262

4 Он убрал капища на холмах, разбил священные камни, снес столб, посвященный Ашере, изрубил на куски медного змея, сделанного Моисеем, потому что тогда израильтяне всё еще совершали ему воскурения, — звался он Нехуштан.

5 Езекия уповал на ГОСПОДА, Бога Израилева, и не было подобного ему среди царей иудейских ни после него, ни прежде.

6 Он был беззаветно предан ГОСПОДУ и соблюдал заповеди, переданные ГОСПОДОМ Моисею.

7 ГОСПОДЬ пребывал с Езекией, и тот во всех своих начинаниях имел успех. Езекия восстал против царя ассирийского и не стал ему больше служить,

8 разбил филистимлян до самой Газы с окрестностями, захватив и сторожевые посты, и укрепленные города.

9 В четвертый год правления Езекии (это был седьмой год царствования в Израиле Осии, сына Илы) ассирийский царь Салманесер подошел к Самарии и осадил ее.

10 Город был взят к концу третьего года осады. В шестой год правления Езекии (это был девятый год царствования в Израиле Осии) Самария пала.

11 Ассирийский царь угнал израильтян в Ассирию, поселив их в Халахе, что на Хаворе, потоке в области Гозан, а также в мидийских городах,

12 потому что не слушались они гласа ГОСПОДА, Бога своего, преступили Завет, Союз с Ним, — ничего из того, что заповедал Моисей, слуга ГОСПОДЕНЬ, не слушали и не исполняли.

13 В четырнадцатый год царствования Езекии ассирийский царь Синаххериб напал на укрепленные города Иудеи и захватил их.

14 Езекия, царь иудейский, отправил к царю ассирийскому в Лахиш такое послание: «Я виноват! Отступи от меня — заплачу, сколько назначишь мне». Царь ассирийский назначил Езекии, царю иудейскому, выплатить триста талантов серебра и тридцать талантов золота.

15 Езекия отдал всё серебро, какое только нашлось в Храме ГОСПОДНЕМ и в сокровищнице царского дворца.

16 Езекия тогда даже снял облицовку с ворот Храма ГОСПОДНЕГО, включая столбы (ее некогда велел сделать сам Езекия, царь иудейский), и отдал царю ассирийскому.

17 Царь ассирийский послал из Лахиша в Иерусалим к царю Езекии своего полководца, главного евнуха и главного советника с большим войском. Они выступили и, подойдя к Иерусалиму, остановились у водостока верхнего пруда, по дороге к полю белильщиков.

18 Они стали звать царя, но вышли к ним Эльяким, сын Хилкии, смотритель царского дворца, писец Шевна и летописец Йоах, сын Асафа.

19 Главный советник сказал им: «Передайте Езекии слова великого царя, царя ассирийского! На что надеешься ты?

20 Для войны нужны советники и сила, а не пустые слова. На кого понадеялся ты, когда решился восстать против меня?

21 Ты, как видно, на Египет думаешь опереться — на эту трость надломленную? Кто на нее обопрется, тому она и проткнет ладонь! Таков удел всех, кто рассчитывает на фараона, царя египетского.

22 Или скажешь мне: мы, мол, на ГОСПОДА надеемся, на Бога нашего? Уж не на Того ли, Чьи святилища и жертвенники Езекия уничтожил, потребовав от Иудеи и Иерусалима поклоняться только перед этим жертвенником в Иерусалиме?

23 Лучше договорись с моим владыкой, ассирийским царем! Я мог бы дать тебе две тысячи коней — только найдешь ли ты для них всадников?

24 Как же ты собираешься обратить в бегство хотя бы одного из наместников владыки моего, пусть и самого незначительного в его окружении? Ведь ты же на Египет надеешься, на его конницу и колесницы.

25 Разве не без воли ГОСПОДНЕЙ пришел я разорять эту страну? Так ГОСПОДЬ и сказал мне: „Иди в эту страну и разори ее“».

26 Тогда Эльяким, сын Хилкии, Шевна и Йоах сказали главному советнику: «Будь добр, говори с нами, слугами своими, по-арамейски — мы тебя поймем, только не говори с нами по-еврейски, чтобы не слышали тебя все эти люди, что на городской стене!»

27 Но главный советник отвечал им: «Разве владыка мой послал меня передать эти слова только вашему владыке и вам, а не всем тем людям, которые находятся сейчас на городской стене и которым придется вместе с вами мочу свою пить и собственные испражнения есть?»

28 Тогда он выпрямился и стал громко кричать по-еврейски: «Слушайте слова великого царя, царя ассирийского!

29 Так говорит царь: пусть не обманывает вас Езекия, ведь он не сможет спасти вас от моей руки.

30 И на ГОСПОДА пусть не внушает вам Езекия напрасных надежд: мол, непременно спасет вас ГОСПОДЬ, ни за что не будет отдан этот город в руки ассирийского царя.

31 Не слушайте Езекию! Вот что говорит вам ассирийский царь: покоритесь мне, выходите, и будет каждый из вас есть плоды своей лозы виноградной и смоковницы и пить воду из собственного колодца.

32 А потом я приду за вами и отведу вас в страну такую же, как ваша, в страну, где много зерна и вина, хлеба и винограда, маслин и меда, там вы будете живы, не умрете! Так не слушайте же Езекию, он обольщает вас: ГОСПОДЬ, мол, вас спасет.

33 Удалось ли богам других народов спасти страны свои от царя ассирийского?!

34 Где теперь эти боги Хамата и Арпада? Где боги Сефарваима, Хены и Иввы? Может быть, Самарию уберегли они от меня?

35 Из всех богов этих стран кто уберег свою страну от моей руки? Неужели ГОСПОДЬ сбережет Иерусалим?»

36 Но народ молчал и не сказал ему ни слова, потому что царь велел им ничего не отвечать.

37 А Эльяким, сын Хилкии, смотритель дворца, с главным писцом Шевной и летописцем Йоахом, сыном Асафа, разодрав на себе одежды, пришли к Езекии и передали ему слова главного советника.

19 Главный советник сказал им: «Передайте Езекии слова великого царя, царя ассирийского! На что надеешься ты?

20 Thou sayest,559 (but389 they are but vain8193 words,)1697 I have counsel6098 and strength1369 for the war.4421 Now6258 on5921 whom4310 dost thou trust,982 that3588 thou rebellest4775 against me?

20 Для войны нужны советники и сила, а не пустые слова. На кого понадеялся ты, когда решился восстать против меня?

21 Now,6258 behold,2009 thou trustest982 upon5921 the staff4938 of this2088 bruised7533 reed,7070 even upon5921 Egypt,4714 on5921 which834 if a man376 lean,5564 it will go935 into his hand,3709 and pierce5344 it: so3651 is Pharaoh6547 king4428 of Egypt4714 unto all3605 that trust982 on5921 him.

21 Ты, как видно, на Египет думаешь опереться — на эту трость надломленную? Кто на нее обопрется, тому она и проткнет ладонь! Таков удел всех, кто рассчитывает на фараона, царя египетского.

22 But if3588 ye say559 unto413 me, We trust982 in413 the LORD3068 our God:430 is not3808 that he,1931 whose834 853 high places1116 and whose altars4196 Hezekiah2396 hath taken away,5493 and hath said559 to Judah3063 and Jerusalem,3389 Ye shall worship7812 before6440 this2088 altar4196 in Jerusalem?3389

22 Или скажешь мне: мы, мол, на ГОСПОДА надеемся, на Бога нашего? Уж не на Того ли, Чьи святилища и жертвенники Езекия уничтожил, потребовав от Иудеи и Иерусалима поклоняться только перед этим жертвенником в Иерусалиме?

23 Now6258 therefore, I pray thee,4994 give pledges6149 to854 my lord113 the king4428 of Assyria,804 and I will deliver5414 thee two thousand505 horses,5483 if518 thou be able3201 on thy part to set5414 riders7392 upon5921 them.

23 Лучше договорись с моим владыкой, ассирийским царем! Я мог бы дать тебе две тысячи коней — только найдешь ли ты для них всадников?

24 How349 then wilt thou turn away7725 853 the face6440 of one259 captain6346 of the least6996 of my master's113 servants,5650 and put thy trust982 on5921 Egypt4714 for chariots7393 and for horsemen?6571

24 Как же ты собираешься обратить в бегство хотя бы одного из наместников владыки моего, пусть и самого незначительного в его окружении? Ведь ты же на Египет надеешься, на его конницу и колесницы.

25 Am I now6258 come up5927 without4480 1107 the LORD3068 against5921 this2088 place4725 to destroy7843 it? The LORD3068 said559 to413 me, Go up5927 against5921 this2063 land,776 and destroy7843 it.

25 Разве не без воли ГОСПОДНЕЙ пришел я разорять эту страну? Так ГОСПОДЬ и сказал мне: „Иди в эту страну и разори ее“».

26 Then said559 Eliakim471 the son1121 of Hilkiah,2518 and Shebna,7644 and Joah,3098 unto413 Rab-shakeh,7262 Speak,1696 I pray thee,4994 to413 thy servants5650 in the Syrian language;762 for3588 we587 understand8085 it: and talk1696 not408 with5973 us in the Jews' language3066 in the ears241 of the people5971 that834 are on5921 the wall.2346

26 Тогда Эльяким, сын Хилкии, Шевна и Йоах сказали главному советнику: «Будь добр, говори с нами, слугами своими, по-арамейски — мы тебя поймем, только не говори с нами по-еврейски, чтобы не слышали тебя все эти люди, что на городской стене!»

27 But Rab-shakeh7262 said559 unto413 them, Hath my master113 sent7971 me to5921 thy master,113 and to413 thee, to speak1696 853 these428 words?1697 hath he not3808 sent me to5921 the men376 which sit3427 on5921 the wall,2346 that they may eat398 853 their own dung,6675 and drink8354 853 their own piss4325 7272 with5973 you?

27 Но главный советник отвечал им: «Разве владыка мой послал меня передать эти слова только вашему владыке и вам, а не всем тем людям, которые находятся сейчас на городской стене и которым придется вместе с вами мочу свою пить и собственные испражнения есть?»

28 Then Rab-shakeh7262 stood5975 and cried7121 with a loud1419 voice6963 in the Jews' language,3066 and spoke,1696 saying,559 Hear8085 the word1697 of the great1419 king,4428 the king4428 of Assyria: 804

28 Тогда он выпрямился и стал громко кричать по-еврейски: «Слушайте слова великого царя, царя ассирийского!

29 Thus3541 saith559 the king,4428 Let not408 Hezekiah2396 deceive5377 you: for3588 he shall not3808 be able3201 to deliver5337 you out of his hand:4480 3027

29 Так говорит царь: пусть не обманывает вас Езекия, ведь он не сможет спасти вас от моей руки.

30 Neither408 let Hezekiah2396 make you trust982 853 in413 the LORD,3068 saying,559 The LORD3068 will surely deliver5337 5337 us, and853 this2063 city5892 shall not3808 be delivered5414 into the hand3027 of the king4428 of Assyria.804

30 И на ГОСПОДА пусть не внушает вам Езекия напрасных надежд: мол, непременно спасет вас ГОСПОДЬ, ни за что не будет отдан этот город в руки ассирийского царя.

31 Hearken8085 not408 to413 Hezekiah:2396 for3588 thus3541 saith559 the king4428 of Assyria,804 Make6213 an agreement with854 me by a present,1293 and come out3318 to413 me, and then eat398 ye every man376 of his own vine,1612 and every one376 of his fig tree,8384 and drink8354 ye every one376 the waters4325 of his cistern: 953

31 Не слушайте Езекию! Вот что говорит вам ассирийский царь: покоритесь мне, выходите, и будет каждый из вас есть плоды своей лозы виноградной и смоковницы и пить воду из собственного колодца.

32 Until5704 I come935 and take you away3947 853 to413 a land776 like your own land,776 a land776 of corn1715 and wine,8492 a land776 of bread3899 and vineyards,3754 a land776 of oil3323 olive2132 and of honey,1706 that ye may live,2421 and not3808 die:4191 and hearken8085 not408 unto413 Hezekiah,2396 when3588 he persuadeth5496 you, saying,559 The LORD3068 will deliver5337 us.

32 А потом я приду за вами и отведу вас в страну такую же, как ваша, в страну, где много зерна и вина, хлеба и винограда, маслин и меда, там вы будете живы, не умрете! Так не слушайте же Езекию, он обольщает вас: ГОСПОДЬ, мол, вас спасет.

33 Hath any376 of the gods430 of the nations1471 delivered at all5337 5337 853 his land776 out of the hand4480 3027 of the king4428 of Assyria?804

33 Удалось ли богам других народов спасти страны свои от царя ассирийского?!

34 Where346 are the gods430 of Hamath,2574 and of Arpad?774 where346 are the gods430 of Sepharvaim,5617 Hena,2012 and Ivah?5755 have they delivered5337 853 Samaria8111 out of mine hand?4480 3027

34 Где теперь эти боги Хамата и Арпада? Где боги Сефарваима, Хены и Иввы? Может быть, Самарию уберегли они от меня?

35 Who4310 are they among all3605 the gods430 of the countries,776 that834 have delivered5337 853 their country776 out of mine hand,4480 3027 that3588 the LORD3068 should deliver5337 853 Jerusalem3389 out of mine hand?4480 3027

35 Из всех богов этих стран кто уберег свою страну от моей руки? Неужели ГОСПОДЬ сбережет Иерусалим?»

36 But the people5971 held their peace,2790 and answered6030 him not3808 a word:1697 for3588 the king's4428 commandment4687 was, saying,559 Answer6030 him not.3808

36 Но народ молчал и не сказал ему ни слова, потому что царь велел им ничего не отвечать.

37 Then came935 Eliakim471 the son1121 of Hilkiah,2518 which834 was over5921 the household,1004 and Shebna7644 the scribe,5608 and Joah3098 the son1121 of Asaph623 the recorder,2142 to413 Hezekiah2396 with their clothes899 rent,7167 and told5046 him the words1697 of Rab-shakeh.7262

37 А Эльяким, сын Хилкии, смотритель дворца, с главным писцом Шевной и летописцем Йоахом, сыном Асафа, разодрав на себе одежды, пришли к Езекии и передали ему слова главного советника.
